Les business angels, révélateurs, plus que moteurs, de l’engagement des entreprises dans l’innovation

Abstract

Cet article propose de discuter dans quelle mesure le financement des entreprises par les Business Angels contribue à l'innovation à partir d'une base de données unique de 432 entreprises françaises financées par l'un des membres du réseau France Angels (Fédération française des réseaux de Business Angels) au cours de la période 2004-2011. La population d'entreprises soutenue est comparée à un contrefactuel constitué de 2 160 individus semblables. Des éléments d'explication de l'engagement dans l'innovation sont fournis à partir d'une enquête qualitative réalisée auprès de BA membres de France Angels et d'entreprises. Ils illustrent l'importance du comportement spécifique des BA au moment du choix des entreprises et leur attitude durant la période d'accompagnement dans l'explication des écarts de trajectoire. L'estimation d'un modèle économétrique des déterminants de l'innovation, grâce à la méthode des Effets Fixes avec Décomposition Vectorielle rend compte de du rôle clef que jouent les Business Angels dans l'effort d'innovation des entreprises
