Abstract

Après s'être maintenu bien au-delà des $ 1 000/tonne en 2011, les cours de l'huile de palme ont hésité en 2012 entre reprise (ils approchent des $ 1 200/tonne en mars) et repli, chutant en décembre à $ 776/tonne avant de repartir en légère hausse. Les perspectives restent incertaines, quoique globalement " porteuses ". Produite aux trois quarts en Indonésie et en Malaisie, l'huile de palme a ses premiers marchés d'importation en Inde (7,7 Mt en 2012, sur un total de 40 Mt d'huile de palme échangées dans le monde), en Chine (6,3 Mt importées) et en Europe (5,4 Mt), autrefois premier importateur. Soutenu par la croissance des pays émergents bien davantage que par celle à peu près atone des pays européens, le marché de l'huile de palme est sensible aux quelques trous d'air que traversent depuis la crise de 2007 les deux géants d 'Asie. En Europe, les perspectives restent maussades, la menace d'une taxation pour motif sanitaire à l'initiative de la France, ou d'un boycott des consommateurs pour raison environnementale, est réapparue en 2012 avec une acuité sans précédent à l'initiative de la France, sans que l'on sache la part qu'en ont pris la raison et l'obsession désespérée du made in France.
