New horizons for the performing arts sector ?

Abstract

A first article invites us to look at the performing arts as a particular socio-economic sector. This approach makes it possible to better grasp the own structural limits of this art world, in front of the important contextual changes it is facing. In this sense, the question of how value (symbolic as well as more strictly economic) is produced and distributed within this sector is a major element which has to be considered. Through this approach, it is possible to lay the groundwork for a fundamental reflection about how to consider production in this sector nowadays. A second article deals with the type of private / public partnership in the artistic field the last century has left us. The example of performing arts enables us to propose elements of reflection on the necessary reconfiguration of this partnership, which requires redefining our conception of art and its relationship to society, along with the wealth it generates. It also implies moving towards a more cooperative and integrated governance, at the level of civil society actors, as well as local authorities and the Ministry of Culture.
