Abstract

The aim of this article is to examine the impact of policy makers responses to the inflationary shock in Morocco, and to draw conclusions regarding developing countries that have opted for the same responses. Based on the Seller's inflation hypothesis, it shows that raising interest rates and supply-side measures such as tax and customs exemptions and subsidies are unable to mitigate the deterioration in purchasing power and the cost-of-living crisis. In this context, a return to price stability and inflation requires the limitation of market powers and the extension of fiscal space by increasing tax revenues as adjuncts to monetary policy.
