Abstract

Cette recherche décrit l'un des passages historiques des jeux vidéo sur internet. Lorsque des « jeux vidéo en réseaux », conçus pour être joués sur plusieurs machines en coprésence, se mettent à intégrer des fonctionnalités d'accueil de joueurs distants, connectés via internet. Sur son cycle de vie, GameSpy (1996-2014) joue un rôle dans ce réagencement sociotechnique, en tant qu'infrastructure intergicielle servant à apparier les joueurs. Nous revenons sur ses spécificités historiques et son essaimage, en particulier au travers du concurrent Battle.net, qui a su se maintenir depuis plus de 30 ans.
