Abstract

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we review the literature on blockchain technology in the healthcare industry, focusing on the healthcare supply chain. We propose both descriptive statistics and qualitative meta-synthesis analysis of the literature. We formulate the main propositions about the benefits that blockchain can yield to the healthcare industry. Second, we do not take the literature for a guarantee as we do not aim to conduct a descriptive literature review merely. This paper goes a step further to evaluate the literature's claims' accuracy and maturity. We do this on two levels: the technical and managerial levels. In other words, we simplify and explain and technical parts of the blockchain models proposed for readers that are not familiar with blockchain. Also, we shed light on the weak technical parts purported about blockchain and its benefits. Finally, we propose a future research agenda to complete our effort in improving the literature's accuracy and integrity.
