Abstract

Depuis les manifestations des Gilets Jaunes, la démocratie directe a fait irruption dans la sphère publique française. Produit-elle plus de légitimité et de confiance politique ? Conduit-elle à mieux intégrer les demandes de la société dans le système politique ? Les citoyens sont-ils assez compétents pour prendre des décisions techniques? Porte-t-elle atteinte au rôle des partis et du parlement ? Constitue-t-elle une menace pour les minorités et les droits individuels ? Quels sont ses effets sur l'économie, les inégalités ou l'écologie ? Ce ne sont que quelques questions soulevées dans le débat public auxquelles plus de quarante ans de recherche permettent d'avoir des réponses. Ce livre réunit 51 spécialistes issus de 16 pays différents et fait le tour en 40 chapitres des connaissances actuelles sur le sujet, pour la plupart largement inédites en langue française. Il montre ce que nous savons et ce qu'il reste à découvrir sur ce mode de gouvernance fascinant qui tend à se développer partout dans le monde, mais face auquel la francophonie semble encore réticente.
