Abstract

La question du statut de la monnaie dans la théorie économique chez les auteurs italiens du xviiie siècle n'a commencé à recevoir le maximum d'attention que ces dernières années. Des au teurs comme Ferdinando Galiani, Pietro Verri Antonio Genovesi, on produit un grand nombre d'ana lyses très importantes mais qui ont été occultées par l'ouvrage de Smith de Malthus et de Ricardo et l'attention exclusive qui leur a été portée. Nous voulons dans ce papier tenter de reconstruire la théo rie monétaire mobilisée par Pietro Verri, en particulier dans les méditations sur l'économie politique, mais aussi dans d'autres écrits. Rappelons que le concept de marchandise universelle, repris par Marx a été élaboré par Pietro Verri. Il n'y a pas chez les auteurs italiens d'éviction de la monnaie comme cela peut se voir chez les physiocrates ou même chez Smith.
