Abstract

Statistic, indicator, measurement always set out an overall view of the world. The intention of benchmarking, ranking and other performance indicators, is to insert market reasoning in all fields of public and social life. Here, we suggest to look at how the market be imperative in social practices (one of economic practices); we show the absolute connections between measurements, quantifications or indicators and economic thought, especially liberal economic thinking. What links they are? What is the story of the couple "quantifications-free market economy"? What has been the impact in building information systems and decision support systems?
