Brésil : Bolsonaro, la rencontre entre l’extrême-droite et les milieux évangéliques

Abstract

Dans le cas du Brésil, pour mieux comprendre l'essor politique fulgurant de Bolsonaro, il est essentiel d'expliquer les modifications majeures des attachements religieux de ce pays, directement liées aux bouleversements économiques et sociaux expérimentés depuis la décennie 1980. Catégorisé comme nationaliste pour sa capacité à canaliser autour de lui une vague de mécontentement rejaillissant sur des gouvernants considérés comme tous corrompus, Bolsonaro exploite effectivement la crise économique et la montée des violences sociales dans lequel se débat le Brésil, fléaux que les politiques ne réussissent pas à maîtriser, et en partie responsables de l'apparition d'une nouvelle forme de nationalisme religieux. Cette évolution politico-sociale doit donc être resituée dans le cadre d'un système capitaliste en crise, incapable de tenir ses promesses de prospérité. Sans cela, ni le rôle croissant de l'évangélisme dans ce pays ni les appuis recueillis par Bolsonaro ne pourraient être sérieusement appréhendés.
