Abstract

Professeur à la Harvard Business School depuis 1985, Michael C. Jensen a suivi un parcours original, à la pointe de la recherche, depuis les années 60. Après avoir été l'un des pères fondateurs de la finance de marché, il réoriente ses travaux au début des années 70 vers la finance d'entreprise et l'efficacité des organisations , un champ qu'il contribue très fortement à bouleverser grâce à une démarche hétérodoxe, recourant simultanément aux concepts de deux domaines à l'origine étrangers l'un à l'autre : la finance et la théorie des organisations. Michael C. Jensen, dont le nom a été pendant longtemps surtout associé à ses travaux sur la théorie de l'agence, propose après une trentaine d'années de recherches, une théorie "intégrée" des organisations, permettant une compréhension globale du fonctionnement de l'économie capitaliste. Ses contributions aux sciences de gestion, dont il a fortement stimulé l'évolution, imposaient sa présence dans notre série de portraits des "constructeurs" de la théorie du management.
