Abstract

Building Territorial Governance: Experiences of Inter-Municipal Work Through a Regional and Spatial Planning System In the article we examine the experiences of inter-municipal work and cooperation within the framework of the regional planning and territorial planning system of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, during the period 2008-2014. From the outset we set out the context of related experiences in Europe, and then we explain the general situation of planning and territorial management in Chile. In the results we present the following instruments: the Environmentally Sustainable Spatial Planning project, the Regional Development Strategy, the Regional Public Policies and the Regional Plan of Spatial Planning. Subsequently, we verify the hypothesis proposed proving that this system has been an instance of territorial governance between regional and municipal actors. This process has allowed the co-construction of the instruments of regional and spatial planning led by the Metropolitan Regional Government of Santiago.
