Abstract

Labor relations, labor management practices and cultural values in rural areas : paternalism model changes in Burgundy In this contribution, employment practices of rural firms are analysed in relation to the influence of the economic, social and cultural environment of the rural community. The common feature of labor relations in rural plants seems to be the remaining of paternalistic relationships. After presenting the historical model of paternalism and its translation in terms of labor management, empirical data concerning manufacturing plants located in one rural area of Burgundy ­ Bresse Bourguignonne ­ are used to set up present forms of paternalism.
