L’assurance-vie en Afrique subsaharienne francophone : état de développement et défis à relever

Abstract

Traditionnellement, les activités d'assurance-vie sont destinées à fournir une couverture d'assurance pure contre le risque de décès prématuré. L'assuré paie des primes d'assurance en échange d'une couverture à verser aux bénéficiaires (personnes à charge) en cas de décès prématuré du principal soutien de la famille. Les services d'assurance-vie offrent également des rentes qui fournissent une couverture pour le souscripteur d'assurance contre le risque de longévité (vieillesse par exemple). Dans ce cas, l'assuré paie des primes à l'assureur en échange d'une couverture, qui est payable au cours d'une période de temps déterminée ou toute la période de la durée de vie de l'assuré. Ainsi, l'assurance-vie joue un rôle important dans la planification financière des individus car elle peut être utilisée comme une couverture contre l'incertitude financière résultant des risques de mortalité ou de longévité encourus par les individus (Guérineau et Sawadogo, 2015).
