Abstract

The literature on the middle income trap can help us to better understand the recent evolution of the Chinese economy as well as its difficulties. However, if the accent is put most of the time on the dangers of an increase in wage costs, the increase in capital cost seems as fatal to the profitability of the companies as their loss of international competitiveness caused by the increase of wages. On this point, the Marxist analysis offers a major contribution to a better understanding of the middle income trap.
