Abstract

The aim of the communication consists in giving theoretical and empirical parameters of an experiment in progress, in the metropolitan area of Grenoble, in order to design new indicators of wellbeing (Ibest). In other words, it is part of works attempting to create alternative indicators of human development. The main theoretical issue considers that wellbeing does not only consist in "having" but in opportunities offered to the individual by his environment and his capabilities to achieve his matters. Wellbeing is therefore being (relatively) well "with" one's material and non-material, social and natural environment. The empirical analysis of the experiment is then conducted through two dimensions: the achievements, reflecting a tension between aspirations and means the individual has; forms of sociability or social worlds to which the individual belongs.
