Abstract

La construction progressive de l'avantage compétitif financier suisse (1914-1936) / Laurent, Alain, Auteur; Vallet, Guillaume, Auteur in Revue d'économie financière n° 113 (mars 2014). - pp. 259-273 Résumé: L'objectif de cet article est d'expliquer comment la Suisse est parvenue à construire un avantage compétitif majeur dans le secteur financier. À partir d'une perspective historique, nous montrons que la période 1914-1936 a été décisive dans cette construction, la Suisse passant d'un statut de place financière internationale de second rang à celui de lieu incontournable, avec l'émergence associée d'acteurs très puissants comme les banques. Si nous mettons en évidence une influence majeure exercée par l'industrie bancaire et financière, un tel avantage compétitif ne s'est durablement solidifié qu'à partir d'une coalition nationale autour de la préservation de la valeur du franc suisse, dans laquelle l'industrie des biens a aussi joué un rôle important. La stabilité de la monnaie nationale au cours de cette période a ainsi été décisive pour la spécialisation financière de la Suisse.
