Abstract

We are facing a multiplication of urban water hazards and the urban water vulnerability increases. This paper focuses on megacities and offers an analysis of this process. The approach is exploratory and begins by constructing a database on the 595 existing megacities. Next a multifactorial analysis specifies the main characteristics of these megacities. In the end the study identifies three structural components (maturity, anthropisation and centrality) then correlates them with hazards data. Thus it distinguishes groups of cities according to their structure and factors of vulnerability.
