Abstract

Dans cet article, l'auteur se concentre sur 2 attributs de la famille intergénérationnelle. Il analyse tout d'abord sa fonction de protection et d'entraide à l'égard des plus jeunes et des plus âgés, en concurrence ou en complément avec le marché ou l'Etat : force est d'admettre que les débats reposent ici sur les a priori ou préjugés des auteurs sur les vices et les vertus attribués à ce troisième acteur qu'est la famille, en particulier sur l'opportunité des retours familiaux, i.e. des aides, donations ou legs effectués par les plus âgés vers leurs enfants ou petits-enfants. L'auteur aborde ensuite, précisément, la dimension patrimoniale, voire dynastique, de la famille, autour d'un patrimoine et de ressources à pérenniser et à transmettre, notamment par héritage ; ce qui conduira à replacer ce dernier au sein de l'ensemble des transferts aux enfants adultes, à côté des aides financières et des donations.
