Abstract

Faut-il flexibiliser l'emploi pour réduire le chômage ? Cette question est, aujourd'hui encore, au coeur des projets de réforme du marché du travail. Et les propositions qui visent à instaurer de nouveaux contrats de travail y répondent par l'affirmative, arguant que faciliter les licenciements permettrait aux employeurs de davantage embaucher. Cet argument a le mérite de la simplicité. Il manque pourtant de validation scientifique. Qu'ils soient empiriques ou théoriques, les travaux de recherche en économie n'ont, par exemple, pas réussi à mettre en évidence de façon incontestable l'effet positif sur l'emploi d'une diminution du coût des CDD. Cet article tente de le faire apparaître en présentant le coeur des modèles de demande de travail intertemporelle et une illustration des résultats qu'ils permettent d'obtenir étalonnés sur données françaises.
