Abstract

The impact of the « 44 ton – 5 axles » truck. – What would be the consequences of an hypothetic increase of the maximum authorised weight of truck with 5 axles from 40 tons to 44 tons:- on the productivity of the road transport industry ? The study shows that on a long term basis, the gain could be of 11%, but on a short term it could be nil;- on public spending on infrastructure maintenance ? Calculation shows that the overcost resulting from the greater aggressiveness of the trucks is more important than the decrease of expenses authorised by the decrease of the number of trucks, so that a change to 44 tons truck could increase expenses related to the biggest trucks of more than 10%.----------------------------------------------With the author and the publisher of the copyright agreement.
