Abstract

Mobility and use of transportation modes by the old people in Grenoble from 1978 to 1985. – The study, based on the household surveys carried out in Grenoble in 1978 and 1985, addressing the travel behaviours of old people allows emphasizing the specific features of the mobility and way of living of this social group: a high trend towards walking, and a high frequence of purchases, in particular. Yet, the analysis of the travel behaviours carried out with a typology of old people based on their ages, sex, possibility or not of driving a car and their place of residence brings out significant differences of behaviours among this group. Indeed, the new generations of old people, among which many have cars, demonstrate types of mobilities that are more oriented by the use of car, at the expenses of the other systems of transportations.
