Abstract

L'ouvrage majeur de Jean-Baptiste Say, le Traité d'Économie Politique, couvre la plupart des champs de l'économie politique : valeur, monnaie, production répartition, consommation, fiscalité, dette publique, institutions monétaires et bancaires. Ce livre a connu du vivant de l'auteur cinq éditions successives entre 1803 et 1826 qui comportent des variantes et des différences si importantes que l'on peut parler d'ouvrages différents sous le même titre. Jean-Baptiste Say a été l?un des principaux protagonistes des débats auxquels participent Ricardo, Malthus et Sismondi sur les questions de la valeur et des débouchés. Jusqu'à présent le lecteur n'avait le plus souvent accès qu'à l'édition posthume préparée par son fils Horace (6e édition, 1841). Cette nouvelle édition permet de découvrir toute la richesse d'une oeuvre qui a connu une diffusion internationale considérable au cours du XIXe siècle.
