Abstract

Cette étude empirique analyse l'incidence du cycle économique sur l'aptitude des firmes à soutenir un comportement de coopération au sein d'une entente explicite ayant existé durant l'entre-deux-guerres dans les charbonnages du bassin Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Le cadre formel de base reprend celui définit par T. F. Bresnahan (1982) et l'adapte aux spécificités de l'industrie étudiée. Par la suite, la prise en compte des techniques d'analyse par la co-intégration nous permet de mieux appréhender l'aspect dynamique de l'analyse au travers de la distinction entre une dynamique de court terme et une dynamique de long terme entre un certain nombre de variables incluses dans le modèle. Une distinction est ainsi établie dans la dynamique de la production, des stocks et des capacités de production du bassin. À l'aide d'un indice d'excédents de capacité de production, on parvient à distinguer l'impact des variations de production d'une part et l'impact de l'évolution de la capacité de production installée d'autre part sur le taux de marge des firmes.
