Abstract

Deux normes encadrent la question de l'insertion des jeunes en France aujourd'hui. La première est celle de la nécessité d'un bon niveau scolaire. La deuxième est celle de la nécessité d'aborder le marché du travail muni d'une formation qualifiante. Nous proposons dans cette communication un éclairage invitant à aller au-delà de ces normes, à relativiser le statut qui leur est conféré aujourd'hui d'évidence sociétale, au même titre que le chômage d'insertion serait une fatalité arithmétique. Pour mener à bien cette analyse, nous passerons par un détour théorique : nous nous appuierons sur Amartya Sen (2003). L'exposé de ce que peut apporter la pensée de cet auteur pour notre propos sera l'objet de la première partie. Dans la deuxième partie, nous présenterons une lecture de nos travaux de terrain sur les parcours de scolarité et s'insertion des jeunes de niveau VI et V.
