Abstract

Cet article constate en premier lieu que l'origine du déficit courant des Etats-Unis se situe principalement dans la frénésie consommatrice de ses résidents, matérialisée par la hausse parallèle du déficit commercial. Cette frénésie est telle que, en deuxième lieu, elle entretient la dépendance des principaux partenaires à la demande en provenance des Etats-Unis. Cette dépendance explique alors pourquoi, en troisième lieu, le reste du monde, en contrepartie des déficits courants américains, accepte d'octroyer une ligne de crédit quasi indéfinie aux Etats-Unis, par l'achat de titres du Trésor américain principalement.
