Abstract

Transport system reflected politics and socials actions producing space. Syrian road network was built by the ba'athist power, which is govern Syria since 1963. It's been used for national integration and territorial control. After economic liberalisation since 1991, state control on transportation had reliesed. Now private sector is the first actor in road transportation. But ports, airports and terrestrial custom are all the time under strong state control. Circulation express structuration and dynamism of syrian space : the line Damascus – Aleppo is the center. Syrian Coast (Alawit area) a dominated periphery producing state staff. The North East, a pionnier front organised and dominated by Aleppo and Damascus because no town in this area is able to become a real regional center. In fact transportation improvment did not modify syrian space structures, but it accelerated its concentration. Moreover distances betwen communities are still strong because transportation is just a technical tool which is unable to modify social organization.
