Abstract

This paper deals with the renewal process of four local productive fabrics in the south of France. These areas are marked by a productive tradition that have been capitalized into a resource based knowledge and know-how (characterized by individual skills, professional capabilities, training supply, technical specificities, entrepreneurship) and now facing a competitiveness problem. These studies show that the building and the capacity of specification of individual skills and training are central forces that allow the local renewal of the local economic resources. The local investigations allow us to study how the local collective forces can modify the affectation of resources in the economy and what are the determinants of the public development process that turn traditional fabric into a new one. This collective dynamic process tries to concentrate, to attract and to keep economic development forces in the local economy, but it is over determined by global matters or by historicallock-in that constraint the possible development paths.
