Abstract

Les auteurs décrivent ici les débuts dans la vie active des jeunes issus de l'immigration d'Afrique du Nord (Algérie, Maroc, Tunisie) et d'Europe du Sud (Espagne, Italie, Portugal) qui quittent la formation initiale après une expérience des études supérieures. A l'aide des données de l'enquête "Génération 98" du Céreq, l'entrée dans la vie professionnelle de ces deux catégories d'anciens étudiants est comparée au devenir professionnel des jeunes d'origine française. Ce travail débute avec une présentation de la classification des origines nationales telle qu'elle est appliquée dans l'étude. Il est suivi d'un exposé des caractéristiques sociodémographiques et scolaro-universitaires des catégories de jeunes ainsi définies. Il y est montré que la probabilité de quitter le système éducatif après des études supérieures est très inégale selon l'origine. L'étude se focalise ensuite sur la période d'accès au premier emploi, la description de cet emploi et de celui occupé à la date de l'enquête. Les résultats indiquent que les conditions d'entrée dans la vie active des jeunes issus de l'immigration maghrébine sont plus difficiles et défavorables que celles des jeunes originaires d'Europe du Sud ou de France. Afin de contrôler la structure des populations étudiées, cette étude s'achève par une analyse en régression multiple des facteurs qui peuvent agir sur l'insertion professionnelle.
