Abstract

Esta obra desarrolla las teorías y herramientas que utilizan los economistas para explicar los aspectos internos y externos del fenómeno educativo. En primer lugar, analiza los efectos económicos de la inversión en educación, tanto en el individuo como en la sociedad, poniendo especial énfasis en la formación del capital humano y en el papel que ejerce en las actividades mercantiles y no mercantiles de los individuos —como son las actividades de consumo. A continuación, asimilando el sector educativo a una industria y el centro escolar a una empresa, el libro se centra en el estudio del propio funcionamiento de los sistemas de enseñanza. Aborda de manera detallada la producción de valores escolares y la eficiencia interna de los sectores educativos, al mismo tiempo que examina los gastos y los costes de las actividades de enseñanza y presenta los instrumentos empleados para planificar el desarrollo de los sistemas educativos. La obra concede un papel importante a la aplicación empírica, por lo que cada tema incluye ejemplos concretos que permiten apreciar cómo se ponen en práctica las teorías expuestas.
