L’épisode boulangiste à la Chambre des députés (janvier-avril 1889) : de la crainte controlée à la peur panique

Abstract

Les décideurs politiques s'appuient sur leurs émotions pour agir. Cet article mobilise l'épisode boulangiste (notamment janvier-avril 1889) pour illustrer comment la peur – une émotion méprisée en politique – peut s'avérer utile. En nous appuyant sur des méthodes quantitatives et qualitatives, nous montrons d'abord l'importance des émotions dans la Chambre des députés. Nous mettons ensuite en évidence le contraste entre la peur panique qui saisit et paralyse le camp boulangiste avec la peur modérée, utile à l'action, qui secoue le camp républicain.
