Abstract

The condition of women in African societies in general, and more specifically in Congo, remains marked by the obstacles encountered to access quality employment, male predominance, poverty, gender-based violence, and other difficulties. Women are one of the most exposed and fragile social categories. In order to free themselves from this unfavorable situation, women engage in various activities, including the production and sale of vegetable products. This work is part of the context of the impact of urban agriculture on the empowerment of female vegetable growers in Talangaï's 6th district (Brazzaville). To achieve these objectives, a qualitative and quantitative survey was conducted in the field in Talangaï, focusing on a sample of 105 households selected in a reasoned manner. The data collected during the semi-structured interviews were analyzed. The results obtained confirmed that vegetable growing is a vector of empowerment and improvement of the living conditions of the producers. It contributes to the reduction of poverty and unemployment rates. The income generated by vegetable growing has a beneficial impact on the social and economic sphere of vegetable growers, by promoting the creation of new profitable activities, the acquisition of equipment and manufactured products, as well as the promotion of food security, health, and education.
