Effets de la proximité à la mine sur le niveau d’équipement des ménages : une application à la Nouvelle-Calédonie

Abstract

Cette étude s'inscrit dans le cadre d'un projet du Centre National de Recherche Technologique (CNRT) « Nickel et son environnement » et s'attache à analyser les impacts de la mine en Nouvelle-Calédonie sur le niveau de vie des populations environnantes. Ne disposant pas des données des revenus dans les bases de données des recensements utilisées ici (année 2009 et 2014), un indicateur d'équipement est créé et attribué aux ménages et individus qui le composent. On reprend les critères de proximité à la mine définis par Thion et Cornier (2022) afin de définir une sphère d'influence minière dans le but d'établir les groupes d'individus « traités » et « contrôles ». Une méthode d'appariement est utilisée pour mesurer l'effet de la proximité d'une activité minière sur le niveau d'équipement des ménages en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Ces groupes sont appariés à partir de leurs caractéristiques socio-économiques. Les résultats des régressions économétriques montrent globalement un effet positif de la proximité de l'activité minière sur le niveau d'équipement. En appariant des individus de communes minières et de communes non minières, on obtient des résultats comparables.
