Abstract

To respond to the many challenges faced by agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa, support to innovation and innovative and inclusive entrepreneurship is fundamental. To date, research in this area has focused on the services provided by the different actors, but without focusing on the coordination phenomena between the actors who provide these services. This article proposes to fill this gap by studying an innovation support services ecosystem (ISSE) that was set up to support the creation of the Bio-SPG label in Burkina Faso. We carried out a historical case study of this ecosystem through surveys of the actors directly involved and the consultation of secondary data. The results show a three-stage implementation of this ecosystem (preliminary, initiation and ramp-up phases), three levels of relationships between the actors (strong, weak and context-related) and the existence of a hub organization which fulfils several roles, in particular connecting and mobilizing stakeholders. This work calls for delving deeper into these questions of ISSE in sub-Saharan Africa, the roles of the hub organization and the competence required to assume them.
