Abstract

La dette publique en Europe a atteint des niveaux élevés après la crise de 2008 et la pandémie de COVID-19. Toutefois, elle varie selon les pays, en fonction de leurs spécificités économiques. L'analyse des ratios dette/PIB et charge d'intérêt/PIB révèle que l'endettement public reste soutenable. Cette soutenabilité doit tenir compte des aspects économiques, sociaux et écologiques. Les critères du Pacte de stabilité et de croissance (PSC), qui régissent les déficits et les dettes, sont critiqués pour leur manque de flexibilité face aux différences économiques entre pays. Ces critiques ont encouragé des appels à réformer le PSC, pour une gestion plus flexible et solidaire de la dette. Les réformes suggèrent d'adapter les règles aux défis actuels, notamment le changement climatique, le vieillissement démographique et les incertitudes géopolitiques, afin d'assurer une soutenabilité à long terme de la dette publique en Europe..
