Abstract

Les petites et moyennes entreprises composent une catégorie d'entreprises particulièrement hétérogène faisant partie de ce que l'on désigne couramment comme « le patronat ». Celles et ceux qui dirigent ces entreprises sont alors dans une position intermédiaire, entre l'indépendance et le grand patronat. Ces dirigeant·es tiennent en patronat à trois égards : il·elles sont à la tête d'une structure économique et en sont responsables, il·elles exercent des pratiques professionnelles de gestion et de contribution à la production de cette structure ; il·elles font partie de ce groupe social qu'est le « patronat » aux côtés de pairs vivant parfois des quotidiens professionnels très différents. L'article défend alors l'intérêt de penser les stratifications du patronat et les subdivisions de ces strates à partir d'une entrée par les structures économiques et leurs tailles ainsi que par le travail des dirigeant·es qui y sont à la tête.
