Abstract

La première lecture du sommaire de l'ouvrage de Jacques Igalens, Splendeurs et misères de la RSE, nous annonce un voyage passionnant certes, contemporain bien entendu, empreint d'expertise plus encore, mais qui peut avoir des airs de manuel, ce que nous n'étions pas venus y chercher. Il ne faut pourtant pas s'y tromper, car derrière la dialectique classique des vices et vertus de la RSE, l'ouvrage apporte un regard érudit, circonstancié et moderne, enraciné dans la recherche académique et les pratiques, au potentiel hautement prospectif et prescriptif, sur un concept à propos duquel, pourtant, il arrive fréquemment de rester sur sa faim. Comme dans beaucoup de bons livres, la saveur est dans chaque ligne, loin des titres, et souvent entre les lignes. « Les espoirs portés par la RSE étaient si grands », se dit on à intégrer l'aspect historique de ce concept-pratique. Si grands parce qu'ils incarnent le post-paternalisme, englobent potentiellement l'urgence écologique avec plusieurs années d'avance, et consacrent l'idée de l'entreprise avec (et pas seulement dans) la société.
