Abstract

Many livestock programs rarely and specifically focus on animal keepers, known as cowkeepers or cowherds. By monitoring and grazing the herd, the cowkeeper is both responsible for the management of the pasture in time and in space, while also ensuring the proper feeding of the cattle and the preservation of pastoral resources. It is responsible for the health of animals and monitors their physical condition, behavior and urgent care. Thus, in a context where no public policy is aimed at them, the main concern is to ask how cattle-keepers acquire practical knowledge, know-how or skills in the field of cow-keeping, as well as to understand their additional capacity-building needs.
