Flux financiers dédiés aux PME et niveau de développement du système financier en Afrique

Abstract

Cette étude analyse la relation entre le développement du système financier et le volume des financiers intermédiés en direction des PME dans 30 pays africains sur la période allant de 2009 à 2019. L'accent est porté sur les instruments de financement intermédiés que sont la ligne de crédit, le private equity et les fonds de garantie. L'étude s'inspire des travaux de Eggoh et Villieu (2013) pour spécifier un modèle non linéaire, estimé par la méthode des Moments Généralisés en système. Les données proviennent de la Banque Mondiale et de Making Finance Work for Africa. Il apparaît que la relation entre le développement financier et le financement intermédié est non-linéaire avec la forme en cloche, traduisant ainsi l'existence des effets de seuil. Un niveau de développement financier trop élevé pourrait plutôt réduire le volume de financement intermédiés reçu par un pays. Le développement financier apparait donc comme une condition nécessaire mais non suffisante pour qu'il y ait un flux élevé de financement intermédié. L'étude tient compte du caractère multidimensionnel du développement financier.
