Abstract

The literature on the governance of tourist areas has shown the possible divergences and conflicts of interest between multiple, heterogeneous stakeholders. However, very few studies have looked at the dynamics of their emergence, the evolution of the stakeholders in relation to the issues identified and the negotiation framework. Our research looks at the deployment of a tourism project and the development of a tourism policy, and focuses on the controversies involved. Within the theoretical framework of the sociology of translation, it shows that the way in which the translation process is piloted influences the negotiation process and the outcome of the controversy. This paper presents the results of a 3-year research project conducted with the Communauté de Communes du Grand Chambord.
