Examining multilevel interactions in the digital transformation of supply chains: a case study in the European aerospace industry

Abstract

Industry digital projects for supply chains (SC), and more specifically those relating to inter-organisational information systems (IOIS), are complex to implement and are highly dependent on the relationships established in the industry ecosystem. We mobilise the Industrial Marketing and Purchasing (IMP) Group's ARA conceptual framework to better understand the multi-level interactions between the SC activities, the ecosystem actors and the inter-organisational resources involved in the project. We deduce a model of the ecosystem's interactions and make four proposals that we explore through a case study about the AIRSUPPLY project in the European aerospace industry. This study shows that it is possible to create a dynamic based on the orchestration of these interactions on the three levels defined for the adoption, the appropriation, and the diffusion of an industry IOIS. Finally, we formulate recommendations that will facilitate the success of these projects.
