Abstract

This paper seeks to understand to what extent young and innovative com- pany entrepreneurs' attitudes to governance and growth influence com- pany growth. Analyzing 253 entrepreneurs' questionnaire responses reveals four typical entrepreneurial profiles: independents, collectives, managers, and self-centered. Profile analysis indicates that company growth prospects improve when entrepreneurs are open to establishing formal governance structures and assigning significant roles, both cognitive and coercive, to shareholders. Our typology also highlights the diversity of entrepreneurs' perspectives on the expected consequences of growth. The findings identify the need for entrepreneur training and awareness-raising regarding young and innovative company shareholder roles and the consequences of growth.
