Abstract

Anticipating and accommodating to sea level rise in the French Caribbean island territories (Martinique, Saint-Martin) are a major challenge. The vulnerability of island territories has already been proven. The coastal areas concentrate the vast majority of the human, economic and ecological issues. As a consequence, the proper functioning of these territories can be jeopardized. Urban recomposition is thus necessary, incorporating land use management as a tool for resilience. The acceleration of the sea level rise requires a shortening of the urban planning process. As a result, initiating the transition towards the city of tomorrow amounts to (re)thinking the current city-production models. This article aims to highlight the influence of climate change on the practice of urban planning in island territories.
