Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the need for the establishment of a Guarantee Fund to promote the expansion of SMEs in the DRC. Based on a sample of 300 SMEs from the City of Kinshasa, the survey results from the estimation of a multinomial logistic regression model indicate that sociodemographic factors (sex, level of education, marital status and profession), socio-economic factors (number of commercial activities, daily income, and type of financing) and the socio-cultural factor (belonging to an association) determine the use of the guarantee fund or the joint guarantee in the event of failure to repay by SMEs.
