L’autodidacte Clémence Royer (1830-1902), figure de l’émancipation des femmes économistes

Abstract

Cet article met en lumière le travail singulier de Clémence Royer, femme de sciences et figure de l'émancipation des femmes économistes. Son parcours et son œuvre posent la question du rapport à l'autodidaxie de l'autrice et rend compte des difficultés qu'elle a rencontrées dans sa trajectoire intellectuelle. La portée scientifique de son œuvre, et en particulier son apport en économie – via notamment la publication de la Théorie de l'impôt en 1862 –, annonce l'émergence de thèmes (équité de l'impôt, place de l'instruction, travail des femmes) qui seront développés de façon innovante par des femmes économistes à la fin du xxe siècle, en particulier au sein du courant de l'économie féministe.
