Abstract

Our research aims to highlight the determinants that can intervene to improve the economic performance of Algerian private agri-food SMEs. This, with structural equation modeling (PLS-PM) following the assumptions of the upper echelon theory of Hambrick and Mason (1984). The model was tested on a sample of 93 SMEs. In an emerging and uncompetitive context. The results obtained confirm, overall, the hypotheses of the theory mobilized in SMEs. Beyond the theory, the managerial contribution of the top management team to the owner- manager is an asset that should not be neglected to improve economic performance. It contributes to the choice of strategies and contributes to the improvement of the organization of the SME.
