Abstract

Pluriactive women farmers experience difficulties because they are penalized on three fronts: the workload of the farming profession and pluriactivity farming, and the lack of recognition of their work, including domestic work. An exploratory qualitative approach based on interviews with ten pluriactive farmers in the Nord-Pas de Calais region enabled us to detail both challenges they face in terms of work organization and recognition. Pluriactives develop organizational skills and challenge gendered domestic and professional normative models of task division. However, they suffer from a lack of recognition of their professional identity, coupled with the invisibility of their work and the undermining of their technical and managerial skills as farmers.
