Abstract

The main aim of this study is to identify the key success factors and obstacles to warehouse pooling. To ensure the best possible integration or successful implementation of a shared warehouse, a qualitative study based on seven cases in France is being carried out. It is based on semi-directive interviews with 22 companies involved in warehouse pooling projects. From this analysis, we identify the key success factors: the choice of partners, the willingness of managers, the presence of a trusted third party, and the sharing of information, knowledge, decisions, resources and benefits. On the other hand, management commitment, significant investment, flow and product compatibility, organizational complexity, time and partner maturity are identified as the main obstacles to implementing these projects. Thus, setting up a shared warehouse requires close collaboration between all the players involved, in order to meet the constraints and dynamics created by such pooling.
