Abstract

Dans le film emblématique Arrête-moi si tu peux !, de Steven Spielberg, un sympathique escroc (joué par Leonardo DiCaprio) se fait passer tour à tour pour un pilote de ligne, un médecin, un avocat. Il réussit à tromper nombre de gens et d'entreprises en utilisant, entre autres, une tenue adaptée aux professions usurpées. La perception de l'autre est fortement influencée, au moins à première vue, par la façon dont il ou elle s'habille. Au fil du temps, l'habit a servi à différencier les humains entre eux, non seulement pour marquer des différences culturelles, mais aussi pour prouver, selon le point de vue, leur supériorité ou infériorité. Le même phénomène se produit dans le règne animal : les animaux se parent de couleurs définies pour attirer le ou la partenaire et les utilisent à des fins de tactiques prédatrices ou anti-prédatrices pour le camouflage.
