Abstract

Sur la base d'une synthèse de références clés traitant de la race, d'une part, et des débats épistémologiques et théoriques ainsi soulevés en lien avec cette question, cet article propose une lecture critique de l'ouvrage d'Alain Policar intitulé L'inquiétante familiarité de la race. Décolonialisme, intersectionnalité et universalisme. Bien que légitime, l'inquiétude qu'exprime le politiste quant à la popularisation d'une conception de plus en plus réifiante et essentialiste de la race ne parvient pas à rendre compte de manière tout à fait juste des enjeux académiques soulevés. L'aperçu précieux qu'il donne de différents débats et polémiques sur la race et le colonialisme tend à amalgamer la plupart des tentatives scientifiques d'étudier finement les processus de racialisation avec cette tendance qu'il identifie et critique à juste titre, de manière plutôt convaincante.
